Dungeons & Dragons lifts the ban on NFT

In January, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) publisher Wizards of the Coast was compelled to withdraw proposed changes to its Open Game License (OGL). Its OGL has permitted people to create D&D-inspired works for more than 20 years, including graphic novels and plays.

A ban on NFTs and other blockchain integrations was one of the modifications that was later abandoned. Ironic, given that Hasbro, the company that owns Wizards of the Coast, unveiled a Power Rangers NFT collection on the Wax blockchain last year.

The company also wanted to add new license termination rights for Wizards and royalty payments due from content producers of a certain size.

The drama impacted U.S. company Gripnr, which is building a D&D game with NFT integrations called The Glimmering. Brent McCrossen, the company’s CEO and co-founder, expressed his “thrill” at the updates’ reversal and the move of the published D&D rules and lore to a Creative Commons license, which makes it freely usable for all time.

He said, “We were not just going to pack up our stuff and go home.

NFTs and other conceivable emerging technologies cannot be used as justification for revocation of the OGL. As blockchain is essential to GRIPNR’s core business, we will protest similar attempts to limit its use in the future, he continued.

Although the Wizards of the Coast’s ban hasn’t actually materialized, it comes after similar actions to ban NFT mods from Grand Theft Auto and Minecraft servers.

NFT games still exist on Minecraft servers, despite the fact that Rockstar Games, the creators of Grand Theft Auto, sent cease and desist letters to developers shortly after the ban was announced. Mojang Studios, which is owned by Microsoft, does not appear to be enforcing the ban.

Square Enix to Launch NFT-based game Symbiogenesis

Square Enix has provided additional information regarding its upcoming NFT game, which is situated at the violent and ominous nexus of traditional and Web3 gaming. What’s coming up
