The Shanghai/Capella network update (also known as Shapella), which has undergone months of testing, is now slated to be implemented on the Sepolia testnet. On February 28, 2023, at 4:04:48 UTC, the Shapella network upgrade will go live on the Sepolia network.

This upgrade, which comes after The Merge, adds new functionalities to the execution layer and consensus layer (combined), as well as tool API modifications. Validators can now withdraw staked Ethereum from the beacon chain to the execution layer. Before upgrading Sepolia, Shapella’s functionality can be tested on the Zhejiang test network.

Sepolia, a restricted test network available only to Ethereum engineers, is the second network to get the upgrade. Just last week, the Zhejiang testnet successfully mimicked a staked ETH withdrawal. After one more test network has been set up for the upgrade, the Shanghai hard fork is expected to occur on the primary Ethereum blockchain the following month.

It is not intended for developers to use the Sepolia Test Network to run validators on the network. Zhejiang, on the other hand, is a public testnet, making it available to anyone who wants to try out issuing ETH for staking, including staking providers.

If the change is successful, the main network will be used.
