According to two people with knowledge of the situation, The Information reported on Wednesday that the US-based cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, aims to establish an international cryptocurrency derivatives exchange.

The exchange would especially offer perpetual futures, a type of derivative that is illegal for regular traders in the United States because it has no expiration date and can be traded with a lot of leverage, making it a high-risk product.

However, since the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed a lawsuit against Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange by trading volume, international crypto derivatives exchanges have received a lot of attention. According to the regulator, Binance was accused of operating illegally in the United States and violating US futures trading regulations.
